I had almost the same experience as you, never driven a car or motorcycle, had a 2024 MT-125 waiting to be delivered once a valid CBT was presented and I failed my first CBT in a group of 6 where 4 were retakes on scooters. With inadequate training, I was unable to learn the clutch and they didn't even let me go on the road ride. Any time I tried to stop on the side of the training site for help, I was shouted at to keep doing laps, as well as mocked. After failing me, they approached me and said if I paid extra, they could resume training me. After cooling off from being treated like that, I packed up for a weekend and went from London to Isle of Wight were I was trained properly, a one-to-one CBT. Got to ride the instructor's bike back to his home, was an incomparably better experience. If you live in London, look for a training center that's a bit away from the city, the people are nicer.

Dude! Anyone can fail. The second time i took my cbt i fainted just after the show me tell me at the beginning. I just found out i had food poisoning. I got a reduced rebook fee and passed Hmmm now you say dont buy a bike before the test. Well ive got my next bike. Its an 800cc bmw f700gs and to add to the pressure when i pass im gonna ride to northern ireland via the ferry of course and go spread my Dads ashes Ill pass, it will be my obsession but the few rides i did on my new bike around a car park recreating the mod 1 is probably gonna give me the edge when i go for the license

You can't pass on an auto then ride a manual.

3:13 you overtake a stopped bus and your hand isn't covering the brake or even on the handlebars. People often walk out from in front of the bus. But you don't slow down or have your hand ready to brake. Have you considered the advanced training? Saying what you observe, lane positioning, signs, etc. Lots of people find it useful.

Just failed today. Went in the wrong lane on a roundabout and stalled twice. Booked in for two weeks time but can't say I'm too confident after being shouted at over the headset.

For a beginner cbt is tough i think. Failed and felt terrible. That night i realised the depression was the unrealistic expectation to go from zero to pass in a few hours. If someone had said you are going to take 6 lessons over a number of weeks then a test...i would have thought i had learnt alot that cbt test day and gone from strength to strength .A bit rushed for some of us.

I did and failed my CBT yesterday and now I'm in the process of booking my second day however i had an incredibly decent and understanding instructor who upon realising i wasn't quite ready to be constantly changing gears while still getting used to everything else suggested I use an automatic on my second day just to pass then work on my gear changes in my own time which is exactly what I'll be doing.

The first CBT i did, the instructor was an arse hole, completely put me off going any further with riding a bike. Years later I'm booked to do my CBT again and move on to my full license so i can ride my 250 trials bike on the road.

My CBT instructor was genuinely incredible he was so useful and the ride was just me and him. Chatting on the headset it felt like I was just on a ride with my mates 😂

i got mine next month. I've been driving cars for about 4 years, so the highway code knowledge will help me a lot. it'll be a massive difference but i'm buzzing for it!

Wow, you done the same as me. Lol already got a deposit down in a MT125, I also failed my CBT on a geared bike, the irony was I felt 100% comfortable on the road. Same issue though with clutch control. It was so aggravating and upsetting as I’ve been driving in the roads for 13 years! I’ve also rebooked with a company from Hounslow/ Bedfont this weekend, also elected for an auto twist and go! Hopefully I pass this second time round so I can get on the open road with my bike! Thanks for sharing your story, gives me the confidence and calmness I need!

My mt07 was saved by an abus granite victory x-plus. Got a notification that my bike had been touched through the tracker. Its a nice little lock but I later noticed a flaw that you could cut through the disc of the bike. Always spend the extra money on a decent lock and make sure it goes through the entire wheel. I was lucky the scumbags who came for mine didn't know this security flaw.

By the sounds of it you should have never been allowed out on to the road. Your instructor put you at risk.

Bigger bikes are easier to ride at low speeds.

I had similar! Everyone else has prior experience off road, and was on autos - I was the only one on a manual, instructor blitzed through the carpark stuff before I could understand the clutch and slipping the clutch (confusing as I’m a car driver). Straight into start and stops, apparently I was breaking too early (brakes were a lot tough as it was a 125, and manual bikes have more engine braking) I was struggling with the slow speed stuff, ( the bikes battery died on me) and I was almost complaining back saying this training bike has clearly been used and abused. Instructor said if you keep fucking up the U turns I won’t let you go on the road. I felt like it was very rushed and he didn’t go in depth enough for me as I was on a manual and had a lot more to learn and do, especially whilst turning. He didn’t want me to go on the road, however the owner of the school who I booked in with said he would take me out anyway. I was nervous on my road ride and did the exact same as yourself, and struggled with corners. Didn’t hit anything though haha. I was very sloppy and unbalanced. However as we kept going on the road my natural instincts kicked in on the bike, and I felt more relaxed on the road once I could start going through the gears and stopping from higher speeds. After finishing the owner said it wasn’t perfect but you did not make a single mistake in terms of lifesavers and road rules, the mishap at the beginning but was very impressed with how much I progressed and got better within the hour or so on the road. He wanted me to come back and iron out those creases and said that my road safety and speed awareness was spot on. I got lucky that the owner took a liking to me. But yes there are some crap instructors out there that want to rush through everything so they can go and have their lunch. I passed (just about)

MIne was terrible, turned up for my cbt. The guy doing it turned up with no motorbike gear, said on the website if you didn't have the correct boats and pants you couldn't do it(they let him do it anyway) didn't charge him for the jacket and gloves, helmet. I didn't care as I just wanted to get it done. We start in the test centre and I felt the woman teaching us didn't like me so much after a while. I did the off road bit fine and was listening and learning quickly, we both finished and had dinner, even thou we had all finished eating made us wait and talk rubbish for 30 mins longer. she mainly talked to the other guy. After dinner we hit the road, all was going fine. I was leading and he kept leaving his indicator on. We did the U turn and hill start no problems, I was in front for 4 junctions then the other guy went in front for the rest of the day, like the other 60 junctions. She wanted him to start doing stuff like mirrors and looking over his shoulder which he didn't do kept leaving his indicators on all day and she had to tell him to turn them off about 50 junctions out the 60, he pulled over to the wrong side of the road in front of a oncoming car. Didn't shoulder check before breaking the line. But she said she didn't mind what he was doing. She had a problem with me thou because she said if I didn't stop hitting the indicators and looking in the mirrors at the same time that she wouldn't give me the cbt but apart from that my riding was fine, I ended up stalling twice because she was right up my arse and kept pulling along side me. complaining about my mirrors, so I finally got her figured out and started checking my mirrors and had to look to see if she seen because if she didn't she would start saying you wont get the cbt. He kept pulling from the kerb without the mirrors or shoulder check and she said she didn't mind what he was doing so much. She said I didn't do a left shoulder check before I pulled away from the kerb but I 100% did. In the end I did complete it but I think I was hard done by the other guy even put a foot down on one u turn and she said that's ok I don't mind, she really annoyed me so much that when I got home I didn't even want to go out on my bike. My friend came over the next day and we went out for a ride and he said I was fine and he's not going there to redo his cbt because he wouldn't pass if she's like that. Oh and they was another guy there that was redoing his cbt from the day before and they didn't give it him, he did it on a scooter rev and go. But he had to go back the next day to do it on a 125 manual because he had a 125 is the only reason I can think of. Like if you fail on a scooter you won't pass on a 125 the next day no way and he went straight out on the road in the morning.

some cbt places are insane right? personally i think everyone can pass a cbt first try, if you fail it is not actually your fault; you failed because your instructor failed YOU!
